Rae Leigh was inspired for the idea of this song after attending the 2021 Australian Songwriters Conference north of Sydney after sitting down to do a co-write with someone who didn’t show for the session she ended up writing it on her own.
Rae was working as an extra on the Young Rock the TV show when they bumped her to a singing role performing “Honky Tonk Man” as an 80’s Nashville singer.
As part of the performance Rae was asked to perform an original song as well. The crew were so impressed with the song they organized the song to be optioned and although it was not included in the final cut, if gave Rae the encouragement she needed to record the song professionally by the amazing team at Kross Kutt Records. You can still hear and see Rae perform on the Young Rock in episode 4 season 2.
Singer-songwriter and actor Rae Leigh featured on episode 4, season 2 of the hit NBC universal TV show ‘Young Rock’ with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as a Nashville singer in the 80’s covering Dwight Yoakam’s ‘Honky Tonk Man’ in the same week her single ‘Push Em Up Jill’ produced by Angus Gil hit number one on the Australian National country radio airplay charts. All right before her debut appearance at the Tamworth Country Music Festival 50th anniversary in 2022.
Rae is passionate about connecting people through the power of stories and the arts. As an acclaimed artist receiving radio support from the likes of ABC Brisbane, ABC Gold Coast, 98.9 Triple A, Murri Country and many more.
Rae is an active collaborator having worked with songwriters both in Australia and Nashville, TN (USA). In 2020, she was awarded a $10,000 prize package from JMC Academy through the Logan City Council Live which resulted in the CMT listed single ‘Just Like That’. Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) grant was awarded to Rae Leigh for the development of her new single ‘Love Me’ to be released mid 2022 produced by Nashville based Australian producer Michael Flanders and mastered by Grammy award winning Brad Blackwood
Rae maintains a busy performing schedule, performing locally as well as around Australia. In 2021, she co-headlined with Adam Brand at the MMG 85th Fun Fair (Rosebery, Tasmania) and ANZAC Day Vietnam Veteran Reunion Event (Bairnsdale, Victoria), She is performing at the 50th Anniversary Tamworth Country Music Festival in April 2022 and is confirming shows for; Brisbane, Melbourne, Tasmania and Gold Coast in late 2022. She’s working with Kross Kut Records on a new single ‘Blue Shoes’ which was optioned for ‘Young Rock’ when she was on the show and will be released on Friday 22nd April 2022.
Rae Leigh is also the founder of Songwriter Trysts podcast - an online platform giving visibility and support to other songwriters. With 180+ podcast episodes to date, including artist such as Grammy nominated songwriters; Hanson, Pat Pattison, Allan Caswell, Amber Lawrence, Kevin Welch, Marty Dodson, Aimee Mayo, Colin Buchanan, Adam Brand, Jimmy Fortune, Bill Whyte, James Blundell and Chris Wallin just to name a few.
Rae connects music lovers and songwriters through her candid and inspiring approach. Besides promoting talent on Songwriter Trysts, Rae also leads songwriting sessions and showcases for other songwriters.
